furiously chasing my dreams of changing the world: 1 part passion,1 part grace, 1 part love, all parts Jesus.

the daughter diaries

last year my dad started this thing called “the daughter diaries”

via email me, macey and amanda get updates periodically of family history, cool stories my dad knows and just advice or wisdom he thinks we need or will need.

this morning we got one about how he got his middle name:

Dad worked for the Indiana State Highway Dept along with Paul Swanner back in the 60’s. They mowed and all that stuff those guys do. The state decided to run a new interstate through and called it I-69. Dad got a chance to work on the interstate as a surveyor in training. His section he worked was just north of Marion. He would collect soil samples etc too. Ever notice there is always a lake near the overpasses? Well that’s where they got the dirt to build them. I didn’t used to know that. Also they couldn’t just run the interstate straight but had to put curves in it on purpose, at least every 5 miles so as not to be too boring for the drivers. That was a side note he told me a long time ago. :)

Anyways, Dad worked with a black guy and they became good friends. One day they were in a restaurant and they didnt want to serve Dad’s friend because of him being black. Dad got mad, slammed his fist on the table and said, If you can’t serve my friend here then you ain’t serving me either! A few expressed explicitives later they both left! The year was 1965. The mans name, Calridge Lanier Brewer. I was born and received his middle name.”

I love getting these emails!the things i learn or just family things that have helped shape my sisters; they leave a mark dad.

plus my dad is just pretty much the best.

i dont want to be heard, i want to be listened to.

Holy holiness is a relational holiness- it is God’s overwhelming presence in my life, causing me to want to do what He wills as He gives me the strength to do it, however imperfectly I may live it out.

beast mode.

if i am honest with myself (which i tend to be painfully so), i recognize that one of my biggest battles is remaining in my identity in Christ.when attacks come my way its generally in this area and it starts with little nagging thoughts, that if not caught in time may very well lead to a totally ruined day.

today was one of those days…serving pizza at dinner and BOOM.i have to activate into beast mode of protecting my mind and heart.the thign is…i dont automatically go to beast mode.i self pity and mope for a bit until i am in full blown funk mode.ewww.stupid enemy.i refuse to let THIS ruin my weekend.

REMEMBER TO WHOM YOU BELONG…which just so happens that i belong to a Risen King who holds the keys to death and hell.that’s my King.which means I am a princess.heck to the yes.

if i am called to be like Jesus and He is love then i must take on the attributes of love…….see below.

1 Corithians 13:4-8

Cassie suffers long and is kind; Cassie does not envy; Cassie does not parade itself, is not puffed up;does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Cassie never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

there is no room for mistaken identity.there is no room for lies. i have been bought with a price and the victory has been won.

that’s.truth.

amen.

God does not cease speaking, but the noise of the creatures without, and of our passions within, deafen us, and stops our hearing. We must silence ourselves, to hear the deep hush of the soul, the ineffable voice of the spouse. We must bend the ear, because it is a gentle and delicate voice, only heard by those who no longer hear anything else.
